"In my distress I called to the Lord, and he answered me. From the depths of the grave I called for help, and you listened to my cry. You hurled me into the deep, into the very heart of the seas, and the currents swirled about me; all your waves and breakers swept over me. I said, 'I have been banished from your sight; yet I will look again toward your holy temple. The engulfing waters threatened me, the deep surrounded me; seaweed was wrapped around my head. To the roots of the mountains I sank down; the earth beneath barred me in forever. But you brought my life up from the pit, O Lord my God. When my life was ebbing away, I remembered you, Lord, and my prayer rose to you, to your holy temple. Those who cling to worthless idols forfeit the grace that could be theirs. But I, with a song of thanksgiving, will sacrifice to you. What I have vowed I will make good. Salvation comes from the Lord." -Jonah 2:2-9

"No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." - Romans 8:37-39

This is one of my favorite verses of all time. NOTHING can separate us from Christ's love! God is AMAZING!

Again Jesus called the crowd to him and said, "Listen to me, everyone, and understand this. Nothing outside a man can make him 'unclean' by going into him. Rather, it is what comes out of a man that makes him 'unclean.' After he had left the crowd and entered the house, his disciples asked him about this parable. "Are you so dull?" He asked. "Don't you see that nothing that enters a man from the outside can make him 'unclean'? For it doesn't go into his heart but into his stomach, and then out of his body." He went on: "What comes out of a man is what makes him 'unclean.' For from within, out of men's hearts, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. All these evils come from inside and make a man 'unclean.'" - Mark 7:14-23

Then one of the seraphs flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. With it he touched my mouth and said, "see, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for." Then I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?" And I said, "Here am I. Send me!" - Isaiah 6:6-8

This is one of my favorites. We are called to be like Isaiah. When God asks us to do something for Him, say here I am, send me!

"Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of
witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that
so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked
out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of
our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning
its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you
will not grow weary and lose heart." -Hebrews 12:1-3

Listen to your father, who gave you life, and do not despise your mother when she is old. Buy the truth and do not sell it; get wisdom, discipline, and understanding. The father of a righteous man has great joy; he who has a wise son delights in him. May your father and mother be glad; may she who gave you birth rejoice! - Proverbs 23:22-25

"So if you consider me a partner, welcome him as you would welcome me. If he has done you any wrong or owes you anything, charge it to me. I, Paul, am writing this with my own hand. I will pay it back." - Philemon 1:17-19

Philemon was the owner of the slave Onesimus who stole from him and fled. Onesimus went to Paul, and became a follower of Christ. So Paul wrote this to Philemon as Onesimus was returning to Philemon. Paul is like Christ. And we are like Onesimus. We have sinned, but Jesus pleads with God to treat us like He would treat Jesus. It's an awesome analogy. This came from a pastor at a church I went to yesterday. But the message is clear. We don't deserve to be treated the same as Jesus, but because of His love and His sacrifice, we are! That is love!

"Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice. " Ephesians 5:1-2

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him." John 3:16-17

"For by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." - Ephesians 2:8-10

He has prepared us to do great things. Give him an opportunity.

9/15/09

Alright, what I am trying to do with this blog is create a place where you can find encouragement if you are having a bad day, or if you just want to go to a place full of love. I will do my best to put up a Bible verse every day, and if I can find one, I will put up a good quote or something else. If you want to talk about it, do. I can't promise I will answer because I am quite busy with school, but I will try.

So living at Fairway has been a great experience so far. For those of you who don't know what I am talking about, Fairway is the co-op house I am living in at Purdue. It is a Christian house with great guys. We have our differences, which comes with communal living, but it is a constant encouragement to know that there are others who are in this fight with me. We do some crazy, fun things, but overall it has been a huge step for my faith.

"To keep me from becoming conceited because of these surpassingly great revelations, there was given me a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong."

We all struggle. We all have hardships. But God is there through it all. When we are at our weakest, He is at his strongest. He loves us and delights in helping us get through the hardships. Because we can do anything with God by our side.

We weren't meant to be alone

Have you ever felt alone? There is no one to put your shoulder on, no one to care for you. Well, if you have, you can end that feeling. There is someone who is just waiting for you to ask for help. If you are ever having a bad day, He is there for you. He will lift your distress and put it all on His shoulders. No one is better at it. No matter where you are, who you are, or what your problems are, He doesn't care. He will care for you! If you don't know who I am talking about, his name is Jesus Christ. He died for us because he loves us. He loved us so much that he took the sins of the world on his shoulders and made us free in Him!

Life doesn't have to be full of crud. You don't have to live in a life of sin. Become free in God, and you will find unbelievable joy.
